Coming Home to Saint Monica

Coming Home to Saint Monica

Homecoming week was a festive celebration of Saint Monica Preparatory and in particular the 25th anniversary of our Mariner Football Team's CIF championship title. The 1998 football team was the first in school history to win a CIF Division XI title, defeating Carpinteria High 28-24 in a big, come-from-behind win in front of 4,000 fans at Santa Barbara City College. Led by the late Coach Norm Lacy, who went on to successfully coach Santa Monica High School to its own championship in 2001, Mariners quarterback Chris Griffin, receiver James Dunn, defensive end Davion Doby and fullback Mike Murray were among the dedicated players that brought the championship ring to Saint Monica. The team will be officially inducted into the Mariner Hall of Fame this year.

Students, families, alumni - including many of our 1998 CIF championship team players and staff, faculty and the greater Saint Monica community came out for a week of Homecoming reunions, culminating in a pep rally and football game vs. Verbum Dei High School at Santa Monica College. It was all capped off with a win for the Green and Gold, 50-0! Go Mariners!
