Congratulations to Girls Golf!
Saint Monica Preparatory golfer Nayani L. made it all the way to the CIF/SCGA SoCal Girls Individual/Team Qualifier for the State Championships, competing November 3 at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills! She shot a 74 at Los Robles Golf Course at the CIF SoCal Individuals Tournament to qualify. This is the strongest showing yet for Saint Monica girls golf and Nayani is excited about the future of the program, coached by Chip Womack in the Southern section of the California Interscholastic Federation/Southern California Golf Association. The team finished the regular season October 13 with a strong 6-2 record.
Nayani, a senior at SMPREP, began playing golf at six years of age with Osgood-Schlatter disease, a painful inflammation just below the knee where the tendon from the kneecap attaches to the shinbone. She developed her muscles through golf and learned to both cope with the pain and remain patient and calm in stressful situations. "Golfers develop an unimaginable amount of mental fortitude through playing this challenging and complex sport. I wish to pass these values on to my teammates," said Nayani. "I am so grateful to have a supporting, dedicated and confident team by my side through my last year at Saint Monica. We fought hard for our successes and thank the Saint Monica community for appreciating our work."
