Fall Highlights at SMPREP - Join Us for Homecoming, Monster Mash, Golf Tournament, “Almost, Maine” and Our Holiday Open House

Thank you to everyone who attended our successful All School Open House this weekend. It was so great to see our students, faculty/staff and families give a warm welcome and share the Saint Monica experience with prospective families through thoughtful presentations and campus tours.

Next up, on Friday, October 18, our Mariner community will celebrate Homecoming at Home. Featuring an exciting lineup of food trucks, carnival games, special exhibition games for Varsity Volleyball, Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball teams vs. alumni and faculty - plus the unveiling of the CIF Football Championship Banner and the 2024 Homecoming King and Queen, it will be a night to remember at SMPREP!

On Friday, October 25 the Saint Monica community will celebrate Halloween with the return of a favorite, the Mariner Monster Mash event. With carnival food and games, a DJ spinning haunted tracks, inflatables, Trick or Treating and both Happy and Haunted Hallways, PLUS a special Teacher Experience Auction, the exciting community event is not to be missed.

The 15th Annual Saint Monica Preparatory Golf and Pickleball Tournament will be held Monday, November 4 at Braemar Country Club’s spectacular championship course. All are Welcome, from beginners to advanced players, to join us for a day on the course and court supporting the financial aid program at SMPREP. Learn more and register to play here.

The Fall production, “Almost, Maine” which will be the last held in the Cantwell Auditorium before we break ground in January on a new state-of-the-art performance space, opens Friday, November 8. Purchase tickets here for the run of performances through Saturday, November 16. Tickets are also available for the Preview Dinner on Thursday, November 7. "Almost, Maine" features a series of loosely connected tales about love, each with a compelling couple at its center, each with its own touch of sorcery over the course of one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night. Learn about the cast and crew of "Almost, Maine."

Finally, SMPREP invites families with children ages 3-8 to join us for our Holiday Open House & Playdate. The event on Saturday, December 7 from 9-11 a.m. is a great opportunity for prospective families to get to know our primary teachers in a relaxed and playful atmosphere with arts & crafts, activities and possibly even a Santa sighting! Record Number of AP Capstone Diploma Awards

The College Board announced that nine Saint Monica Preparatory students earned the AP Capstone Diploma last year, based on the scores released from the 2025 AP Exam administration. An additional 18 SMPREP students received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. Congratulations, Mariners!

Dr. Janelle Peters, SMPREP English Teacher, designed our school's multi-year AP curriculum herself and is proud of our students for this outstanding achievement. They represent SMPREP and its project-based learning experience among the only 27,650 students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma and the 12,430 students who earned the Certificate at participating schools worldwide.

LA Tech Week at SMPREP

Mr. Roland Labana, CTO of Altafid and SMPREP's STEM Academy Dean/Computer Science teacher, hosted a LA Tech Week session at SMPREP last week with the help of his Engineering students. The workshop, "AI Tools for Building Apps with Lightning Speed," took place in our new Engineering classroom and was full of a variety of ideas for new apps — from how to report potholes and other road issues, to a study guide for the HSPT with AI-generated quizzes, to researching different car models by searching reviews.

His takeaway from the event, which he thought fit in well with other Tech Week events he attended: "Things are moving super fast and all of us, if we want to survive, have to know about these tools."
