Saint Monica Prep Celebrates Independence Day

Saint Monica Prep Celebrates Independence Day

This year, we welcomed our largest turnout yet for Saint Monica Preparatory's participation in two area 4th of July holiday parades, here in Santa Monica along Main Street and in Westchester along Loyola Blvd. Over 200 students, families, faculty and staff, and alumni joined together to walk in the two, mile-long parades to represent our school community. In Santa Monica, Msgr. Torgerson, the unofficial grandmaster of the parade, led our group in his decorated "Msgr. Mobile" golf cart and was joined by the Sinkys family. SMPREP was near the beginning of the parade, #12 out of the over 100 participating groups this year, which included groups from Pacific Palisades since its parade was cancelled following the Palisades Fire.

In Westchester, our CIF Champion Boys Soccer team proudly represented Mariner Athletics, bringing their championship trophy along for the ride in classic Chevy Impala cars that led our walking group along Loyola Blvd. SMPREP has been part of the Westchester parade since 2017 and is the reigning "Best Private High School," as voted by Westchester's Hometown News readers. What a wonderful way to celebrate what makes Saint Monica so special -- our community!

From Cheonan to SMPREP: A Journey of Curiosity, Culture and Connection

Saint Monica Preparatory welcomed a dozen foreign exchange students and their vice principal, Jeon Myeong-il, from Cheonan Jungang High School in South Korea this month. Starting with a special reception led by President Dr. Luby and Principal Mr. Spellman, to student-led tours of campus, MakerSpace projects and special research demonstrations for our Advisory classes from our visitors, it was an action-packed trip to SMPREP. South Korean students also participated in a special Mass and took part in a spirited game of flag football led by Coach Barnes and the Mariner Football team.

This is the second year of the Korean exchange program with Cheonan Jungang High School. Saint Monica will continue its Japanese exchange program this spring for the fourth year in a row.

SMPREP Fall Play Featured by Playbill

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the wonderful Saint Monica Preparatory Fall Play, "12 Angry Jurors." Playbill recently featured the cover design for our production in a PLAYBILLDER Spotlight Gallery of covers from around the country! View the full gallery here; SMPREP's creative design is on slide eight.

Adapted from the classic play and film "12 Angry Men," the thought-provoking reimagining placed the actors in the midst of the audience rather than on stage, allowing spectators to feel as though they were seated inside the jury room. Now that the final verdict has been read, students are preparing to take on "Mamma Mia!" as our spring production this April.
