Second Grade Partners on Community Garden
Second grade classes from Saint Monica Preparatory and Transfiguration Elementary School reunited to learn about the opportunity they have each day to make a difference. Students listened to Meena Harris' book, Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea, and discussed the importance of community and being compassionate and kind to all, regardless of color, nationality or religion.
After a walking field trip to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, where students met others who contribute to a lived sense of community and doing for others, students explored the topic of growth through planting seeds. Students wrote down one way they can help others grow and placed it in their plants, which created our very own Transfiguration and Saint Monica Prep Community Garden! Our 2nd graders will take care of the plants and share regular updates with Transfiguration. Compassion, love and kindness are blooming between our two school communities, thanks to our roles on the Archbishop of Los Angeles’ Anti-Racism Task Force.
