Spotlight on The Arts at Saint Monica Preparatory

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Saint Monica Preparatory’s wonderful performance of “Mean Girls: The Musical,” our spring production about everyone trying to find their place in the social hierarchy of high school, as well as all of our Lower School student performers who took part in the impressive Talent Show put on by Student Council.

SMPREP senior Andrew Collyns is the force behind making the upcoming first annual Saint Monica Film Festival a reality on May 28 at 6 p.m. at Laemmle Monica. The festival will feature film students showing off the short films they made throughout the year, as well as an awards ceremony. Also this month, the Illuminate Arts Festival will bring together creative minds in all aspects of art - visual, performance and media to showcase the best of the best at Saint Monica Preparatory.

SMPREP students were honored for their PSAs related to driver safety at the Streets, Art, SAFE Festival put on by the nonprofit Streets are for Everyone. Congratulations to Tomas Officer for his regional award, Josie Liebman for her two regional awards and one national award, and Lily Butchers for her three regional awards and one national award. Well done!

Finally, congratulations to our literary talents at Saint Monica Prep. Fourth graders Sofia O. and Audrey P. won $1,000 scholarships for next year's tuition from the Hannon Foundation’s annual creative essay contest for their writing on the life and legacy of Father Junipero Serra. Meanwhile at the Upper School, Alishah Castillo, Josephine Liebman and Warren Choi were honored this month for winning the American Legion essay contest for the Founding Forward Valley Forge program. Catholic Schools Week Highlights

This week, Saint Monica Preparatory celebrated the gift that is Catholic education during the annual, nationwide Catholic Schools Week (CSW) - culminating in an all school Mass. Despite the challenging start to 2025, Msgr. Torgerson encouraged everyone to be grateful to be here together as part of the Mariner community. It was a week full of gratitude and appreciation for the role the parish, community, SMPREP families, the nation, our talented students and of course, our wonderful faculty and staff play in creating the strong foundation provided by Saint Monica Prep.
