Spring’s Record-Setting Achievements

Spring’s Record-Setting Achievements

Mariner Boys Golf had a record-setting season, securing the league championship title with only one loss in its overall 14-1 record. Mariners made it all the way to the CIF Team Championship, where they missed the cut by only 11 strokes. Junior Joe Bohan shot a 70 at Los Robles to qualify for CIF State, the first golfer in the Boys Golf program history to advance this far in competition! He finished the season 88th in all of California. We look forward to more high-level play from the team next season led by PGA Professional Coach Charles Womack.

At the Middle School level, 6th grader Westley H. shot a 30 to secure first place at the CYO Golf Championship at Heartwell Golf Course in Long Beach. Westley competed along with 5th grader Eduardo D. who shot 36, playing 9 holes on a par 3 course.

Mariner Softball secured second place in Camino Real League play in a hard-fought final loss to Bishop Montgomery capping off a highlight-filled season. Mariner Baseball, meanwhile, pulled off an historic win vs. Paramount - the first win in CIF Playoffs for Mariner Baseball in 20 years! Its solid playoff run ended in the CIF quarterfinals. 2025 was also the inaugural season for our Middle School Baseball team, including a big win vs. Brentwood.

At the CIFSS Divisional Finals for Track & Field, our 4x400 boys relay team of Evan Benet, Chris Barnes, Elijah Wilson and Jack Milligan, set a school record with a time of 3:28:61. Not to be outdone, at FIYA Track & Field, our 6th grade boys 4x400 relay team of Joaquin L., Jaib G., Zac S. and Henry H. set a FIYA record of 4:47:72 as they captured first place! Earlier at the CYO Prelims, Mariners claimed second place in the boys 4x100 (6th graders Jaib G., Henry H., Joaquin L. and Marcos M.) with a personal record of 57.93. For the girls, in the 4x400 it was a strong third place finish for 5th graders Damaris B., Emma E. and Shiva G. and 6th grader Kalianne L. with a time of 4:55.92. Joaquin L. also placed first in the 100 Meters with another personal record of 13.33 seconds.

Also making the highlight reel this season, Boys Volleyball, the #32 seed, took down the #1 seed in a big 3-1 CIF playoffs win vs. Liberty/Winchester.

Last week, SMPREP hosted a Signing Ceremony for four of its senior athletes continuing their achievements at the collegiate level. Luke Griffin will play football at Lewis & Clark College, Kim Macias will play basketball at University of Hawaii at Hilo, Sanai Lambert will play golf at Bethune-Cookman University and Savanna Hernandez will play softball at University of Rochester. Congratulations, Mariners! All hail, Green & Gold!

We loved hosting over 200 families at our TK-12 Open House this past weekend. Our campus was buzzing as SMPREP student tour guides showed off our welcoming classrooms and facilities, including our beautiful new state-of-the-art STEM laboratories. SMPREP application deadlines for the 2026-2027 school year are approaching: December 15 is the priority deadline for grades TK-8 and January 15 is the deadline for grades 9-12.

Record Number of AP Capstone Diploma Awards

The College Board announced that nine Saint Monica Preparatory students earned the AP Capstone Diploma last year, based on the scores released from the 2025 AP Exam administration. An additional 18 SMPREP students received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. Congratulations, Mariners!

Dr. Janelle Peters, SMPREP English Teacher, designed our school's multi-year AP curriculum herself and is proud of our students for this outstanding achievement. They represent SMPREP and its project-based learning experience among the only 27,650 students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma and the 12,430 students who earned the Certificate at participating schools worldwide.

LA Tech Week at SMPREP

Mr. Roland Labana, CTO of Altafid and SMPREP's STEM Academy Dean/Computer Science teacher, hosted a LA Tech Week session at SMPREP last week with the help of his Engineering students. The workshop, "AI Tools for Building Apps with Lightning Speed," took place in our new Engineering classroom and was full of a variety of ideas for new apps — from how to report potholes and other road issues, to a study guide for the HSPT with AI-generated quizzes, to researching different car models by searching reviews.

His takeaway from the event, which he thought fit in well with other Tech Week events he attended: "Things are moving super fast and all of us, if we want to survive, have to know about these tools."
