Winter Sports Wins - Three League Champion Titles, State Playoff Action
Go, Mariners! Congratulations to all of our student athletes and coaches on a strong showing for winter sports at Saint Monica Preparatory. Girls Soccer had an undefeated regular season, and along with both Girls and Boys Basketball teams, secured their respective League Champion titles! All four varsity teams - Girls and Boys Basketball, as well as Girls and Boys Soccer - made the playoffs this season with Girls Basketball going all the way to the CIF Division III State playoffs. Way to represent! Boys Basketball had four First Team selections - EJ Andrews, Pierre Malone, Jaedyn Patterson and Micah Williams, and two Second Team - Aidyn Caveness and Luke Griffin. SMPREP Cheer placed third in the SHARP competition at Sierra Vista High School, receiving a judges' award for Most Enthusiastic Overall team. That's the Mariner spirit!
At the Lower School, seven basketball teams competed through March, with both 3rd/4th Grade Girls (undefeated) and 3rd/4th Grade Boys (undefeated in league) in particular dominating into the final weeks. Spring sports at SMPREP have sprung into action - with Baseball, Beach Volleyball, Boys Golf, Cheer, Softball, Boys Tennis, Track, and Boys Volleyball seasons all underway at the Upper School; while Lower School athletes compete in Soccer, Track & Field and Boys Volleyball.

Next April during the National Football League Draft, our eyes will be on Saint Monica alum and Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams ‘20. Williams honed his football skills here at Saint Monica, leading to a standout prep career. His success at WSU placed him in the program's record books, ranking second in single-season receiving touchdowns and fourth in receiving yards. As he continues to make waves, his future in the professional ranks looks bright with scouts closely following his every move.
This week, Saint Monica Preparatory celebrated the gift that is Catholic education during the annual, nationwide Catholic Schools Week (CSW) - culminating in an all school Mass. Despite the challenging start to 2025, Msgr. Torgerson encouraged everyone to be grateful to be here together as part of the Mariner community. It was a week full of gratitude and appreciation for the role the parish, community, SMPREP families, the nation, our talented students and of course, our wonderful faculty and staff play in creating the strong foundation provided by Saint Monica Prep.
