Navigate your path

In the Middle School you will acquire knowledge and skills through conversation, discovery and deep understanding. This is a period of your life characterized by an enormous expansion of  your view of yourself and your place in the world. We strive to inspire, in each student, a love of learning, self knowledge and meaningful community membership. You will find your voice and discover how you can impact the world.

BUILDING your future

During the middle school years, you experience rapid growth intellectually, emotionally and physically, and gradually take ownership of the learning process, build relationships and come to appreciate your own individuality as you prepare to take on the challenges of high school. While the Middle School’s academic program is rigorous, our expectations are fully aligned with the developmental capacities of our young students and fully supported by the close work and passion of our highly trained and experienced middle school faculty.

OPPORTUNITIES THAT prepare you

Math

The program provides a student-centered, hands-on environment to explore, invent and discuss the meaning of math. Subjects are introduced not as a collection of isolated concepts but as an ever-evolving body of interconnected knowledge. Building a sequence of experiences in a gradually enlarging spiral, teachers use problem-solving approaches to meet students where they are and to develop their thinking and understanding.

Science

The science program is a hands-on, inquiry-based approach. Through hands-on activities as well as rigorous research, students learn to evaluate and understand the scientific theories and evidence as well as investigate and generate scientific explanations. They become observers of the natural world and to not only ask why, but also what.

ELA

Through the use of language,  students develop critical-thinking and analytical skills. With a strong focus on developing reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, students engage with a variety of texts to learn to analyze texts and strengthen writing skills preparing them for the rigors of high school.

Social Studies

The program advances the method of inquiry and evaluation to learn from the past. Students expand their knowledge of significant people, societies and cultures while thinking critically and tracing change over time between current and historical events. Students use written, verbal and project-based learning to demonstrate mastery.

Spanish

The program focuses on four key elements of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Through interactive experiences, students develop their language skills. Whole body learning helps provide students with an organic learning environment. Excursions and other cultural engagement support student growth.

Religion

The program develops spirituality through Catholic teachings, prayer, reflection, service and an experience of God's unconditional love. Their spiritual practice will help middle school students develop an inner hope and sense of purpose and help them to navigate the adolescent years.

Engagement that supports Your Growth

I don’t know how you all do it with such support, grace and patience, but it is so important for these kids, and was for our son, at this time in their lives – and for that we thank you! Our son learned so much this last year and grew a lot this year. The structure and small class sizes and accountability at SMPREP was great for him.
