The Visual and Performing Arts pathway focuses on the direct creation of art and entertainment by the individual artist. Music, Dance, Theater–What is your talent, or what would you like it to be?
VISUAL ARTS
Visual artists create art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. They use a variety of methods—painting, sculpting or illustrating—and an assortment of materials, including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, pencils, pen and ink, photography, plaster, clay and computers. Their works may be realistic, stylized or abstract and may depict objects, people, nature or events.
Fine artists create art to satisfy their own needs for self-expression. This pathway leads to careers that are involved in working with your hands and artistic abilities to create new things and new art.
PERFORMING ARTS
DANCE
Dance Pathway students participate in an intensive study of dance that allows them to build technical, performance and choreographic skills. Through these pathways, students foster strong relations with community members as they build a creative and innovative arts language. Dancers can be found in a number of settings—from theatrical and television productions, to eating and drinking establishments, to dance studios and schools, to theme parks.
THEATRE ARTS
Specialization in the Theatre Arts discipline offers theoretical training and performance experience for students interested in careers in acting. This pathway focuses on drama, expressive communication and performance. Actors express ideas and portray characters in theater, film, television and other performing arts media. Students may also choose a pathway in technical theatre design and technology, which focuses on technical theatre, history and production.
MUSIC
The Music Pathway provides students with knowledge and skills related to the music field. The study of music at Saint Monica Prep helps students develop foundational skills in the classroom and on stage. Led by professional faculty, students learn theory and performance techniques and gain experience in performance opportunities to perfect their techniques and skills.
