Mariners Engage, Act and Reflect.

Experiential Education TK-12

Saint Monica Preparatory believes that the most meaningful education connects the theories and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations. Our immediate environments, as well as the larger world, are ripe for exploring, investigating and examining. Experiential learning charts the course for the way students solve problems, make decisions and meet life’s challenges. From our very own Pacific Coast to our sister school, St. James, in Nairobi, Kenya, Mariners engage with and analyze the world around them. Saint Monica Prep programs stimulate academic inquiry through interdisciplinary learning, civic engagement, cultural awareness, environmental consciousness and leadership.

In order to educate students spiritually, intellectually and emotionally, Saint Monica Prep students explore those areas of learning that stimulate the processes of self-discovery. To accomplish this goal, students must make the connection between the classroom and the world around them.

Driving questions:

Step out and step up!
How experiences ready us to become real-world citizens.

  • The world is a large and complex place and each of us is an integral part in creating the world we wish to see.
  • Organic settings develop sensory, intellectual and aesthetic powers that help us appreciate the world in which we live.
  • Self-examination, along with collective enterprise and positive risk-taking, are more fully realized in unfamiliar settings
